Mom said don't dig up the yard.
Grab a garden trowel and up to three friends and dig straight down from an Indiana backyard to China, through the real layers of the Earth. Sell the dirt to Dale, build machines, and later a drilling rig. Between you and China: about 8,000 miles of topsoil, clay, bedrock, caves, crust, magma and molten iron, and the whole trip is in the game.
No enemies, no timer, no way to lose. You've got all weekend.
Dig through the real layers of the Earth
Turf, topsoil, subsoil, clay, Indiana limestone, granite, caves, and on down. Every layer looks different and digs different. You'll hit the sprinkler line. A rock your shovel can't move turns out to have fool's gold inside. Keep the fool's gold.
Press M to see your hole in cross-section, then zoom out to the yard, to Indiana, and to the whole planet, with a line from you to China and a percentage with an awful lot of zeros in it.
1 to 4 players, one hole
Dig with up to three friends online: one hole, one wallet, one corkboard of goals. Voices fade the deeper you go, so you'll be shouting up the shaft. Somebody cranks the hoist, or leaves a friend hanging in the bucket. Somebody falls in. Nobody gets hurt, and nobody lets them forget it.
Friends busy? It plays fine solo.
Mom, Dale, Mr. Pruitt and Harley
Mom keeps an eye on things from the kitchen window. Dale buys dirt off his tailgate and doesn't ask questions. Mr. Pruitt leans on the fence and comments. He will not be helping. Harley the dog sits at the edge of the hole and supervises.
The radio on the porch keeps playing while you work.
Machines, a drilling rig and secrets
Dirt buys a shovel. Clay becomes bricks in a kiln next to the grill. Fool's gold roasts into sulfur, and sulfur, charcoal and a bag of stump remover make black powder. After that it's iron, steel, drill bits, a drilling rig that digs on its own while you keep it fed, and in the end a machine that swims through the core.
On the way down: bottle caps, a toy car, a time capsule from 1998, trilobites, a mastodon you can stand up in the yard, and a few secrets we won't spoil.
Follow the dig
Clips, progress and the occasional dog.
